Courtney Hanlon

Past Chapter Secretary Major: Resort and Hospitality (Summer 2017) Instrument: Clarinet Courtney hails from Dunedin, Florida where she became involved with the Scottish arts and highland dancing, where she obtained Premier level - the highest level a dancer can achieve. She is also a certified wedding planner through the Bridal Society. Even though she did not major in Music, she was still heavily involved with the band program at FGCU and has served as both Publicity and Social Committee Chairs as well as the Historian for the Fraternity. She is currently the Social Media & Reputation Manager for Kearns Restaurant Group in Fort Myers, FL. Fun Fact: Courtney tore a tendon in her foot by twisting her ankle on a sword during dance practice. |
Brianna Blount

Brianna was born and raised in Sarasota, FL and music has influenced her life since she was three years old. She danced from age 3 – 11 and then fell in love with the flute at age 11. In high school she was the drum major for two years. Music is her passion and she loves her major.
Fun Fact: She is terrified of armadillos.

He has been playing trumpet for 20 years and piano for 23 years. Warren is an aspiring composer and avid orchestrator. He is currently the Band Director for Estero High School in Fort Myers, Florida. Fun Fact: Warren owns over 200 movie scores. |
Karen Ambrose

She actively participates in events held at the Bower School of Music. She cannot wait to begin her career as a music educator, to inspire and share the joy of music with others. Karen is currently the Band Director at Ida S. Baker High School in Cape Coral, Florida. Fun Fact: Karen ran her first marathon in January 2015. |
Allyson Bennett

Past Chapter Historian and Secretary Major: Community Health - Spring 2016 Instrument: Flute Bio: Allyson has been playing flute for almost nine years. While she is not a music major, she loves being a part of the band program here at FGCU. Music has always been a part of her life, her mother was a band director and her brothers both played as well. She is currently a junior Community Health major who now is employeed by the Florida Department of Health in Collier County. She hopes to take everything she has learned from music and apply it to helping people in some way. Fun Fact: Allyson is an avid reader and has read over 190 books since 2009. |
Jose Manuel Fernandez Jr.

Past Chapter President Major: Criminal Justice Minor: Sociology Instrument: Trombone Bio: Originally from Chicago, Illinois and became the Mu Upsilon Chapter's 4th Chapter President (2012-2013). He is honored and privileged to be in this organization. Trombone is his primary instrument and has been playing in the FGCU Symphonic and Basketball Bands since the Fall of 2010. Although he is not a music major, music has had influence on him as from all of its history and genres. Band is more than a class, as it is an opportunity to express himself through this art. José finds that music is so powerful that it can be a great remedy for any troubles in life. In a way music has saved him and grateful for all the opportunities that band has given him such as traveling around the world. |

Major: Music Education - Spring 2015 Instrument: Clarinet; Piano; Guitar Bio: Stephanie Kumetz was a founding brother of the Mu Upsilon Chapter at FGCU. She is a Music Education major. Her main instrument is clarinet but she also plays piano and guitar. Stephanie enjoys to compose music and is currently working on a flute and piano piece. She recieved her masters degree in Composition from the Univeristy of London and plans to pursue a PhD in the future. |

She has been involved in music her entire life. Chelsey’s major is math and she plans to teach when she graduates. B.A. Music Education - Fall 2013 Email: [email protected] Bio: Arriving from his hometown on Fort Myers Beach, Florida, Greg Porter is currently an alumnus of the MY Chapter at Florida Gulf Coast University. As a native Southwest Floridian, he began his musical career staying heavily involved as a band student of an arts-oriented magnet school program and volunteering local music camps each summer. Upon graduating from Cypress Lake High School in 2009, he attended Florida Gulf Coast University studying trombone and musical teaching at the Bower School of Music. He received his diploma as a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in December 2013. Since his first venture in his musical studies, he has been an integral member of the FGCU Wind Orchestra leading up to his final performance with the ensemble at the 2014 FMEA All-State Convention in January. His other ensemble involvements include Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Basketball Band, Brass Quintet, Trombone Choir, and other various groups involved. Greg also performs occasionally as a soloist, along with several other instruments outside of those groups. Aside from his teaching and musical interests, Greg enjoys playing videogames and doing advanced mechanical work on his motorcycle. He is currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a musician for the United States Marine Corps band. |

He has had the opportunity to perform in many ensembles including a ska band (AFT) Mexican Banda, quartets, and trombone choirs. Jesus is from Immokalee, FL and he has traveled through at least 20 different states thanks to marching in DCI with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle corp. He is studying music education and accounting. Josh has been playing music for 10 years and has been a part of the FGCU Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and the Korest Brass Quintet. He enjoys composing music in his free time and is currently working on a saxophone quartet commemorating the Armenian genocide. |
